Tesla’s vehicle sales may be down, but people adore its mezcal

As unsold Tesla vehicles build up at Giga Texas and elsewhere in what have been dubbed "graveyards," Tesla may at least count on speedy sales of other odd goods outside of their usual bread and butter.

Tesla’s vehicle sales may be down, but people adore its mezcal

The newest Tesla product is a bottle of mezcal, which was originally priced at $450 but sold out in just a few days.

Tesla’s mezcal, produced by Nosotros Tequila & Mezcal in California, is characterized as “smokey and floral with a smooth finish.” (Mezcal lovers on a tight budget may acquire the company’s own bottles for about $70.)

Those seeking Tesla’s spirit should expect a taste that combines Espadín and Bicuishe agaves. Tesla describes the mezcal as spicy, with a rich citrus and green apple scent and delicate herbal flavors with slight smokiness. It also has notes of tuberose, jasmine, and chamomile.

The bottle is black and shaped like a lightning bolt, which Tesla claims was developed by the company’s director of product design Javier Verdura. The design was created to celebrate his Mexican heritage and is “emblematic of Mexico’s Oaxacan culture.”

This is not Tesla’s first effort into alcohol sales. In 2021, it will release “Giga Beer” at a more affordable price of $30 per beer. Prior to that, Tesla introduced tequila in 2020 for $250 per bottle.

Following the success of tequila, it’s no surprise that Tesla is experimenting with another agave beverage. In at least one example, a prospective tequila buyer pondered paying the hefty upcharge for a resold bottle priced at $1,000.

Now, interested parties may expect the mezcal to be sold at even greater prices. Tesla Mezcal ads on eBay may fetch up to $5,000.

Nonetheless, it appears Tesla enthusiasts are aware that they are overspending on mezcal, with some on Reddit stating that it is enticing to buy even if it is “a complete waste of money,” or that they are a “sucker” for purchasing it. However, given that sales were limited to two sets per client, Tesla could predict that its loyal fans would still be prepared to pay hundreds of dollars for numerous bottles.

For those who purchased it, there is no turning back. Tesla maintains that all sales are final. Reviews on whether it was worth the price may be expected in 3 to 6 weeks, when bottle orders begin delivering.
